I hate to do this, but here goes...

More and more people are visiting this site these days, in fact we have hundreds of guest visits each day, on top of the member posts.

As I view the server logs, we are also being visited by more and more mobile devices all the time, and these mobile devices and netbooks are much slower at rendering graphics than even the slowest of modern desktop computers.

In an effort to keep bandwidth costs under control, we don't enable the ability to upload images as attachments here, instead we rely on outside sources such as photo bucket to host your images... however... large images still need to be loaded into the browser of the site visitor, and large images can really slow down content delivery. When the server is slowly churning away while delivering these requests to the slower mobile devices, we all wait a while longer for our desktop or laptop machine as well.

We have a width limit to keep the pages from blowing out to the sides, but wehave not put in place height restrictions, and I don't intend to do that on pictures that are in your posts.

There are two areas where we can improve what we're doing.

1) If you quote a post that has an image in it, please delete the image from the quote, so it will only need to render ONE time in the thread, instead of over and over again.

2) I don't want to restrict people from having images in their signatures, even though these images load over and over again, slowing down the content delivery. Instead, I am imposing a height restriction on signature graphics. I cannot do this automatically, so I will ask ALL of you to examine any images you may have in your signature, and please remove anything that is over 110px in height.

I'd like to have this all cleaned up by the end of the month, as our traffic is growing every day, but over the next few days I am going to go ahead and remove the bigger images that are over 300px in height to get a head start on this.

After Jan 1, any remaining images still in signatures that are over 110px in height will be stricken from your signature as we see them, but it sure would be nice if you could take care of it yourself.

It would be great if you were at 110, I'm not gonna bust your stones over 9px, it's been there a long time and it's not a big problem. Anybody making NEW ones, please keep 'em under 110px.

120 and up for sure, change it if you're over, and between 110 and 120, my preference for change is still there, but you're not the cause of the problem.

Since mine was put up today I feel I'm the straw that broke the camels back. Sorry bout that Zen I'll trim it up right away!
